Much like the regular flu except it can be passed from/to animals and all that jazz, right?

It's caused death in some young children, and already ill people, so I figure if you're in one of those categories you ought to play it safe.

On other people who are healthy it's mostly just a regular flu, which is pretty icky but not as bad as it could be.

They're working on a vaccine, but who knows when that'll be ready.

My opinion is that it should be stopped!
And most likely will at least slow down after they finish up that vaccine or whatever it was, but until then I'll keep hand sanitizer at the ready.

I actually haven't heard much about it on the news in the passed week or so, not sure if there's anything new happening with it.
:icondragon-mage-chick:
While I'm glad that they were taking precautions, I still felt that it was hyped up way too much.

What they neglect to tell the general public is that people die each year from the "regular flu", most of which are the elderly and young children. It's nothing new.

What always irks me is that everyone started using hand sanitizer, washing their hands more, staying home if they had a bad cold, etc. You know, what they should be doing all the damn time.

As for the masks, someone on facebook brought up a good point: Sure, people are dying from the swine flu. But why should we wear masks? Millions of people die from AIDS each year, yet lots of people still don't use condoms. Besides, you can protect yourself as much as possible and still get it. It's just one of those things.

Sorry for dragging this out, but I've been pissed about this ever since it came out. I look forward to the vaccine, then everyone can finally shut up about it. >>;

I'm not worried at all. I have a pretty good imunity, so I don't see any real reason for me to worry about getting it. And from what I understand, only those with poor health and frail bodies and stuff actualy die from it.

It's usually found in pigs, but yeah, something like that.

See, that's the thing. The people who are at risk here are the very young, old, and chronically ill. Otherwise, the fatality rate is even lower than the regular flu.

See, the vaccine worries me. Viruses mutate, and it's possible this one could use that to get around a vaccine. If this vaccine is released to the general public, there's likely to be a mob of people clamoring for it.

If we knew what we are, we should do as Sir Arthur Jermyn did; and Arthur Jermyn soaked himself in oil and set fire to his clothing one night.

Hmm... Well, Swine Flu or H1N1 is pretty much exaggerated but the case that hit here in the Philippines is only the mild version. There are no cases of deaths yet too.

As far as I know, they said that it's continuing to mutate. There is also a fear that H5N1 (Avian Influenza or Bird Flu) would combine with it. Okay why the fear? It seems that H1N1 is very good at picking up materials from other flu viruses. (Remember this H1N1 is a never-before-seen mixture of different viruses coming from people, birds and pigs) Also, H5N1 has killed 60% of those that it had affected but luckily it cannot easily jump from person to person. However, once it combines with H1N1, that's a problem right there. I just hope that won't happen.

Well, just practice proper hygiene. That's just the best solution to it right now because H1N1 does not spread via air. xD It spreads through SPIT and stuff similar to it. XD

I'm a proud Filipino by blood, body and soul.
:iconsprech4:
It definitely has. It's getting more hype than the avian flu, and that had a higher death rate. The

Well, see, people know that keeping clean and washing your hands is smart. The thing is that people won't do this until scared into doing so. People will generally take the easier route (say, not washing their hands regularly), except when a threat prompts them to do otherwise. We're a very id-driven species.

Honestly, I thought the masks were going a little far. It's an airborne disease, but we're not talking a huge rate of communication, here.

Of course, the vaccine could also turn out like the regular flu shot - more of a chance of giving you the flu than protecting you from it.

Same, but I can understand concerns about it mutating. It's a valid concern. It's just the fact that people continue to think the state it's in is just horrible and we're all going to die if we don't wear gloves and gas masks grates on my nerves.

Actually, not airborne. Got it confused with something else for a minute. Not that it helps the whole mask argument, anyhow.

The thought of it mutating is the one thing that concerns me, yes. It's a definite possibility, but the thing is that thus far, no one even knows if it will or not. The vaccine could help prevent it, but if it does mutate, it could be in a way that makes it immune to the vaccine.

And that's no good.
